The app says "WhisperKit not ready" — what do I do?
On first launch, Voxly downloads the Whisper AI model (100-500 MB depending on your selection). This can take 1-2 minutes on a typical connection. Wait for the menu bar icon to change from a download arrow to a microphone — that means it's ready.
Why does Voxly need Accessibility permissions?
Accessibility permissions allow Voxly to type text directly into the app you're using. Without this permission, transcribed text will be copied to your clipboard instead, and you'll need to paste manually.
Why does Voxly need Microphone access?
Voxly needs to hear you speak to transcribe your voice! All audio is processed locally and never stored or transmitted.
Which Whisper model should I use?
Start with Base (English) — it's a good balance of speed and accuracy. If you need more accuracy, try Small or Medium. Tiny is fastest but less accurate. Large V3 is most accurate but slower and uses more memory.
Does Voxly work offline?
Yes! After the initial model download, Voxly works completely offline. No internet connection is required for transcription.
Why is transcription slow on my Mac?
Voxly requires Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3). If you're using a larger model like Large V3, try switching to Medium or Small for faster transcription. Also ensure you have at least 4GB of available RAM.
Can I change the hotkey?
Yes! Open Settings (right-click the menu bar icon → Settings) and go to the Hotkey tab. Click "Change Hotkey" and press your desired key combination.
What's the difference between Push-to-Talk and Toggle mode?
Push-to-Talk: Hold the hotkey while speaking, release when done.
Toggle: Press once to start recording, press again to stop.
What languages are supported?
English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Chinese, and auto-detect. For best results with a specific language, use the appropriate language model (e.g., "base.en" for English, "base" for multilingual).
